Though our family started hobby breeding Labrador Retrievers in 2002, our story goes back much further in time. One of my earliest memories was looking out our family room window when I was 3 or 4 years and seeing our black Lab, Sam, sleeping on top of Dad's station wagon. That was in the early 1970s. While Dad was too busy with his veterinary practice to think about breeding Labs, it was his breed of choice and soon became mine. There was never a time growing up that we didn't have Labradors.

 

When I came back from college in the early 90s, one of the first things I did was purchase a yellow Lab of my own. After countless hours of training, "Sheila" became my faithful hunting companion. For the next 10 years, we splashed in swamps and tromped pheasant fields from Indiana to Iowa. I got married in 1998 and my wife understood that Labs were part of the package. Our next Labrador was a gift and why we named her "Cody" I'll never know. She didn't seem to mind. By this time, we had a couple young children. I thought it might add some excitement into the family if Cody had a litter of pups. Dad had a nice black male named "Clyde" and the two of them produced several fine litters together before leaving the world behind and us heartbroken. 

 

Through trial and error and over time, I discovered I had an awful lot to learn about breeding Labs. In fact, I would be embarrassed to admit all the mistakes I made in those early years. But, from the beginning, it has been my goal to improve our breeding with each litter. I'm not ashamed to tell you that I continue to learn from other great breeders and, of course, from Dad, who is in his 58th year of practicing veterinary medicine. We only breed quality, genetically pre-screened Labradors and we provide a comprehensive written health guarantee with every puppy. Why do we do what we do? It's because we believe that a well-bred Lab is a truly a blessing from God. And if He will allow us to improve the Labrador breed and at the same time bring a little more happiness into your home, we count that an honor. For nearly 23 years, that's what we've been doing.
